Gorrath — High‑Rank Steam Empath
Therr’ka is one of the highest‑ranking Steam Empaths in the southern steam zones of Tal’gorr. In a world where most Gorrath hear only pressure, noise, and metal, she hears the memory of water — and that makes her an authority no one argues with.
Origin and Status
Therr’ka comes from one of the oldest Gorrath lineages, whose members traditionally served as:
parognosts
pressure readers
guardians of pipework fields
Her talent appeared early — she could detect a fault in a pipe from a single, almost inaudible hesitation in the steam. At thirteen, she was accepted into Steam Empath training. By twenty, she had achieved a rank most never reach in their lifetime.
Personality
Therr’ka is:
direct
uncompromising
disciplined
impatient with incompetence
and nearly allergic to unnecessary words
Her humor is as dry as overheated steam. Her patience is as thin as the wall of an old pipe. But her precision is legendary.
When Therr’ka is listening, everyone else stays quiet. Preferably.
Abilities
As a high‑rank Steam Empath, she can:
read the memory of water in its steam forms
recognize emotions imprinted into steam
hear malfunctions that haven’t happened yet
determine pressure and flow direction from a single tone
To ordinary Gorrath, this is magic. To Therr’ka, it’s physics that decided to become poetic.
Weaknesses
Therr’ka has two:
she hates silence — silence means something is wrong
she has no patience for people who can’t hear what she hears
Her approach is often harsh, but never unfair. When she raises her voice, it’s because the pressure is rising — literally and figuratively.
Reputation
In the Gorrath steam zones, people say:
“She hears what even water forgot.”
“If Therr’ka is silent, something’s happening.”
“Steam listens to her more than people do.”
Bipilon’s Note
“Therr’ka hears everything. Which is unfortunate, because most people would rather hear nothing at all.”
