Abandoned city surrounding the Institute of Aurenic Studies
Location
Aurenor lies approximately 160 Sight-lines south of the southern edge of Datlesk, on the border of Earein and Darenel.
Once, a city gradually grew around the Institute of Aurenic Studies, providing facilities for scholars, researchers, and anyone striving to understand phenomena that defied ordinary comprehension. Today, Aurenor is abandoned.
Appearance of the City
Aurenor consists of ruined buildings, colonnades, remnants of equipment, and objects whose origin or purpose is no longer obvious. Weather and vegetation gradually erode the structures and reclaim places that once belonged to streets and courtyards.
The city does not feel like a place that was simply razed to the ground. Its structures still stand, though marked by long abandonment. Traces of past life remain in the ruins, but nothing that reliably explains why their inhabitants left.
The Institute of Aurenic Studies
The most significant part of Aurenor is the ruins of the former Institute of Aurenic Studies. Its complex consisted of research buildings, lecture halls, and other facilities that grew alongside the city.
According to available accounts, a glowing structure resembling a flower still stands in front of the main lecture hall. It is uncertain whether this is the same structure that appeared during the Institute’s existence, whether it is truly an Auren, or whether it can be unambiguously classified among known phenomena.
This structure is one of Aurenor’s most famous landmarks. However, its presence alone does not explain what happened within the Institute.
Bipilon’s Note
„So several empires got together, built an entire city to understand something they didn’t understand, and then everyone left because they still didn’t understand it? That’s reassuring. At least it turned out that education doesn’t guarantee a man a brain. It just allows him to build a much larger building in which to lack it.“
„You inquire, Verdana Lux Datlesk responds…“
